Frequently Asked Questions
What does Electrolysis feel like?
You'll probably feel a momentary heat or “sting” sensation while each hair follicle is zapped. Discomfort is minimal for most people, but individual tolerances vary greatly. Keep in mind that some areas of the body are much less sensitive than others. If you find that you are sensitive to treatments, you can discuss sensation management with your electrologist. Dehydrated clients may feel the sensation of treatment more than clients who are adequately hydrated.
How can I maximize my appointment?
Hydrate & Moisturize: Drink plenty of water and keep skin moisturized. Well hydrated skin conducts current better.
Avoid Stimulants: Limit caffeine, sugar and alcohol 24 hours prior to reduce sensitivity
Sun Protection: Avoid sun exposure (tanning) for 48 hours before service.
Hair Growth: Allow hair to grow to 1-3 mm (enough to grab with tweezers). DO NOT tweeze, wax or thread! Shaving is permitted.
How long until I am completely hair free?
Depending on the area you want cleared, the first appointments in your treatment series could be 15 minutes for a small area to an hour or more for a larger area. Most people who follow the recommended treatment plan can expect to be completed or nearly completed within 18-24 months. Generally clients may need to be seen weekly or bi-weekly for the first couple of months with appointments becoming less frequent and shorter in length until treatment is no longer needed.
Why does Electrolysis take so long?
Electrolysis takes a long time because hair grows in cycles (Growth, Rest, Shedding) you can only destroy a follicle when the hair is actively growing, requiring multiple sessions to catch all follicles at the right stage, a process influenced by hair thickness, hormones, consistency. It’s a gradual, follicle-by-follicle process, not an instant fix, demanding patience and repeated treatments to permanently disable every single hair root.
What parts of the body does Electrolysis work on?
Electrolysis is versatile, safe for all body areas, including face, underarms, bikini and legs.
Are there side effects?
Depending on skin type sensitivity, some clients may experience some redness and slight swelling immediately following electrolysis treatment which typically resolves itself within an hour or two of treatment. Post-Treatment care will be discussed with you by your Electrologist during the consultation.
Is Electrolysis better than Laser?
Electrolysis targets individual hairs permanently, while laser reduces hair growth; electrolysis is the only guaranteed permeant solution for all hair types, whereas laser may struggle with very light hairs.
Electrolysis works on all hair colors and skin types.
